Bobby Jones played a pivotal role in several prestigious golf clubs: the Atlanta Athletic Club, East Lake Golf Club, and Augusta National Golf Club. He grew up playing at Atlanta Athletic Club, which was founded in 1898 and later moved to Johns Creek in the 1960s. The club is home to the Jones Museum, housing the world’s largest collection of Bobby Jones memorabilia, including Grand Slam trophy replicas and personal letters with President Dwight Eisenhower.

The Atlanta Athletic Club’s original East Lake property was sold in 1967, but members managed to save the course.  In 1993, it underwent revitalization efforts by philanthropist Tom Cousins aiming to honor great amateur golfers and revitalize the community. Renovated again in 2023-2024, East Lake Golf Club hosts major golf tournaments in the heart of Atlanta's East Side.

Augusta National, co-founded by Jones and Clifford Roberts, was envisioned by Jones after his retirement from competitive golf. The course, designed by Jones and Alister MacKenzie, opened in December 1932. In 1934, Jones and Roberts launched an annual tournament there, which evolved into the iconic Masters Tournament, now held every April.

Due to his connections with these golf clubs, recipients of the Robert T. Jones, Jr. Scholarship benefit from associations with all three institutions.

Scholars at the Masters

Each year, the Bobby Jones Program has the immense privilege of hosting the Robert T. Jones, Jr. Annual Meeting at Augusta National Golf Club during the Saturday of the Masters Tournament. Leadership from Emory University and the University of St Andrews attend to reflect on the year and their longstanding partnership.

During the meeting, the current St Andrews to Emory scholars speak about the impact of the scholarship on their lives and reflect on their role as ambassadors of the Jones’ legacy.
