Friendship

Bobby Jones' capacity for building friendships between people, and across an ocean, has lived on in the student exchanges set up in his name by friends and family. The Robert T. Jones, Jr. Scholarship and Fellowship programs connect two universities in Atlanta - Emory University and Georgia Tech where Jones obtained degrees in law and mechanical engineering - with the University of St Andrews in Scotland, home of the Old Course and the people who adopted him as their own.

INTEGRITY

During his lifetime, Jones was well known for respecting the rules and acting with conviction, both on and off the course. This steadfast dedication to integrity inspired the creation of the Jones Program in Ethics at Emory's Laney Graduate School. Mandatory for all doctoral students, the program provides a cross-disciplinary introduction to ethics for research, teaching and professional life.

Leadership

Always one to push himself, Jones demonstrated strength of will, intellectual courage, and perseverance in every pursuit. Today, those qualities inform the work of the Jones Biomedical Engineering Fellows in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering. Through a unique collaboration between Emory and Georgia Tech, these doctoral students are leading the fight against debilitating diseases like syringomyelia, the rare neurological condition Jones suffered from at the end of his life.
